Vista Tweaks

Very nice suggestions-especially nice to see how to implement them. I have a few more:
1. Stop Scheduled tasks. Depending on who set up Vista, you may have many tasks running at undesirable times. Go to Control Panel>Administrative Services>Computer Management>Task Scheduler. Dig around here and you may find a dozen or more "Services" that someone thought you needed. Especially stop Disk Defrag and any Indexing tasks. I just stopped 'em all. Be sure to check their schedule and "triggers" to keep them dead.
2. Download Process Explorer from Sysinternals. Best to set it to replace Task Manager. Anyhow, it shows everything running on your computer. Click on the CPU tab across the top and it shows which process (MSpeak for program) is using precious CPU cycles. Click on the offending process and press delete. It will offer to kill the process. Do it. Obviously don't kill any important sounding things like WMI, or Desktop Manager, or Explorer. You may find that some programs are loading themselves at startup. Kill them, then go to msconfig to keep them from coming back.
