this may due to your request length is greater than the allowed limit...

or you may changed the executionTimeOut of the request to less than noraml time..

or your database is overladed and processing in database in slowed.

You can avoid this using following thisgs..

At Frontend Side..

1. Use Caching mecahnism

2. Increase request length and execution time in web.config.. like this

   <httpRuntime executionTimeout="Max seconds" maxRequestLength="Max bytes"/>

at db side..

1. Use Proper indexings

2. Use Optimized queries
