C# .NET - Unable to open the web site

Hi

when i try to open the website through loca iis i am getting the following message

unable to open the website http://test1.mywebsite.com.The webserver does not appear to have front page server extensions installed.

but i have installed it and when i restart and open it through local iis i am getting a message

unable to open the website http://test1.mywebsite.com FOUND

pl tell me what to do

To fix the issue you can try this steps

 1.Open the Start menu from the Taskbar and expand the Programs menu.
2.Expand the Administrative Tools menu and open Internet Services Manager.
3.In the IIS Console, right-click the server you want to check.
4.On the shortcut menu, expand All Tasks and select Check Server Extensions.

hi,

You might not have IIS setup properly on the local machine, I would verify your IIS configuration before continuing. You can always create a website or webapplication that runs through cassini instead and provide a folder path vs a IIS path.


Even if you are a machine administrator, with vista if the access restrictions are on you must still always specify that you wish to run the application under an administrator context.

hi,

You have to start Visual Studio with elevated priviliges: right click visual studio shortcut in the start menu and then choose "Run as administrator"

Unable to open the Web site ‘http://localhost/’. To access local IIS Web sites, you must install the following IIS components:

    IIS 6 Metabase and IIS 6 Configuration Compatibility

In addition, you must run Visual Studio in the context of an administrator account.
 
For more information, press F1.

To fix this issue I had to run through the below steps

  1  Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
  2  Click Programs and Features.
  3  Click Turn Windows features on or off.
  4  In the dialog box, expand Internet Information Services.
  5  Expand Web Management Tools, and then expand IIS 6 Management Compatibility.
  6  Click to select the IIS Metabase and IIS 6 configuration compatibility check box, and then click OK.
