Other Issues - Internet Explorer 8- Windows 7 Professional

When I click on many embedded links or an pdf pages in an open window, I get a "Windows cannot display this webpage" message.  I upgraded from Windows XP Professional udate 3 and I do not know if it really installed correctly.  I know ADobe Acrobat frequently does not as I get the "program not running properly and needs to close"  message. I have Adobe Acorbat 8 Professional installed. (with all updates) as well as Adobe Reader (updated) and I still cannot get PDF pages to download properly. 

I have run he trouble shooters and keep getting ads for registry cleaners!  I have Norton 360 Premier installed and run that registry cleaner and defragmenter and disc cleaner.  I frequently remove temporary internet files and broswer history.  Can Someone help.

Option 1:
Run Internet explorer with no add-ons. Though you have not installed add-ons it   might have installed by itself as a part of malicious program. Many add-ons come from the Internet, and they usually require that you give your permission before they are installed on your computer. Some, however, might be installed without your knowledge. This can happen if the add-on was part of another program that you installed. Some add-ons are installed with Microsoft Windows. Steps to temporarily disable add-ons
Click on Start
Click All programs
Select Accessories
Click System tools
And then select Internet Explorer(no add-ons)

If the browser works fine after these steps, add-on may be causing the error.

Steps to determine which add-on may be causing the error
Open Internet explorer.
Click the Tools button, click Manage add-ons, and then click Enable or disable Add-ons.
In the show list, click Add-ons that have been used by Internet Explorer to display all add-ons.
Click the Add-ons you want to enable, and then select Enable.
Repeat step iv for every add-on you want to enable. When you have finished click OK.

Thank you for replying, I will try removing all my add ons.  I do have quite a few add on tool bars that I use such as Google, Bing and a number of widgets.  I also have PDF Converter Pro 6 with Paperport 12.  Sometimes that works when all else fails.
