Other Issues - Motherboard Issue

hi,

This is Vijay, I hav fitted new Asus Motherboard in which there is Four sata Port but the Sata HDD is not detected in the bios of the Motherboard, the DVD rom which has been Installed is detected.

wat must the cause, of Not detection.Please provide me with the solution.

Did you Enable the SATA controllers in the BIOS? There were problems using SATA optical devices on some of the first generation SATA I controllers.

The SATA controller on this board is a 1st generation controller, only does 150mb sata vice 300 on current controllers. Many drives have a compatability jumper on them to set them to 150mb mode, ensure that if this drive has that option, that the jumper is in place. This issue can sometimes cause problems with older controllers. Your SATA controller drivers should be on the drive CD that came with the system or download them here http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php [...] e=download

Here are some Points for troubleshooting SATA hard disk.

Following may be cause,why ur hard disk is not detected.

1)ur hard disk is not connected to power or the power cable is loose.

2)ur SATA disk is not properly connected to the SATA host adapter on the motherboard.

3)Damage to the signal or power cable can also cause an SATA hard disk to appear to fail. Try with another set of cables.

4)The SATA host adapter on the motherboard might be disabled in the system BIOS.Make sure you have enabled it.Below fig will help you,wht i m saying.


5)Make sure you have SATA adapter driver installed.You may have not installed drivers for an add-on SATA host adapter during Windows installation. Restart Windows, watch for the prompt to press F6 to install a third-party SCSI or RAID driver, and provide the SATA host adapter or chipset driver disk.

That all I can suggest you to troubleshoot your SATA hard disk.If none of these work for you,than few more suggestions for you.

1)Try ur hard disk in ur frnd computer,with all cables of friend computer.
2)Borrow any SATA disk from ur frnd,and try in ur system.

Now you will be able to figure out the problem.

Did you already have Windows installed on this SATA drive, or is it still blank?

Going by your description, your mboard is not recognizing the SATA drive.

Your motherboard bios must recognize your SATA drive - if it doesn't re-installing Windows will not help at all.
If that is your case, you must correct that situation first.

- your drive must be jumpered and connected properly - see the first paragraph of response 1
- make sure the onboard SATA controller is set to "Enable" in BIOS.

Hi Vijay,

There are six main reasons why a system BIOS will not detect the presence of an internal hard drive.  Here is a list of them.  They are not in any particular order, but you can follow these steps one by one to troubleshoot this problem:

1. Drive not enabled in the BIOS

2. Serial ATA drivers are not properly installed

3. Faulty or unplugged data cable

4. Drive is not spinning up

5. Incorrect jumper settings on the drive

6. Faulty hard drive

The BIOS on the motherboard does not allow such fine-grained control over the SATA settings such as picking the operating mode. I went ahead and flashed it (after the hassle of hooking up a PATA CD-ROM drive, creating a FreeDOS bootable disk, etc etc) to a "hacked" BIOS that provides a thousand and one options.

This BIOS indicates that IDE mode is the only available mode for the SATA controller, so yes, that's what it's in.

Also, the drives act up (evident by the activity light) even when the SATA controller is disabled entirely.
