I am trying, and I do mean trying, to deploy a Crystal solution onto a client's Windows 2003 SP1 Standard server, running IIS 6. I have installed this Crystal Reports site on one of my servers, which mimics the client's server, and the report runs fine. No matter what I do though on his server, I get "Error in File Unknown.rpt". I have been working on this for nearly 18 hours, over the course of serveral days. The only time I can get the message to change, is if I uninstall Crystal for VS 2008. And the only thing I want the report to do, is instantly export itself to a pdf file. So users online, see a pdf. All crystal functionality is kept server side. When I attempt to perform this export, crystal does indeed generate a temporary file in the C:\temp folder....so I know it is at least trying to do something. But the folder that crystal is supposed to drop the pdf in, never happens. I am beyond frustrated.
Things I have tried:
1. I have installed every service pack or hot fix they have for Crystal, then uninstalled them, then tried them randomly. Nothing changes. I even installed different versions of Crystal, just in case. (then uninstalled them)
2. Everything on his server runs out of the C: drive, and I have verified that the correct drives are noted in the registry.
3. I have added permissions to all the appropriate folders, and many unneeded inappropriate folders, for the user account assigned to the site, the Network account and just about every other account, just to make sure. There are so many full control permissions on that server, that just about anything should be able to get into it at the moment.
I am out of ideas and to the end of sanity with this. If I were BO, I'd be embarassed that I represented such a crappy and frustrating tool to the developers of this world. Can anybody help me?
