can we run SQL Server 2000 and SQL Server 2005 on the same machine?

Yes you can run SQL 2000 and SQL 2005 in same box. But SQL 2005 is still in  
  
beta and is so it is not recommend to install  
  
SQL 2005 in the same machine if it is production.
