I see other presentations that, in the outline pane (to the left of the  
  
main design window), have a tab that allows the user to see a miniature of  
  
each slide.  (In addition to a tab that allows the default setting of the  
  
pane).  
  
I cannot figure out how to make PowerPoint show that second option in the  
  
Outline pane.  I cannot find anything about it in the help menus nor  
  
cannot I find anything in the menu system that looks like it is  
  
appropriate.

That's only available in PowerPoint 2002 and 2003.  It sounds as if you have an  
  
older version of the software.
