Previous Thread:   linking excel spreadsheet objects

9/30/2005 1:49:03 PM    PowerPoint Hyperlinks
How do you add, delete, or move slides without breaking the existing

hyperlinks in the document?

Thank you.

10/1/2005 3:44:54 AM    Re: PowerPoint Hyperlinks
Hi Lynn,

Hyperlinks to slides within a presentation jump to a slide's ID number. The

ID number is one of three different numbers that describe a slide.

There is ...

....the slide number, which is the one you see when editing a slide. These

can start on any number up to 9999 and increase by 1 for each additional

slide in the presentation.

....the index number, which is the place in the slide show 'deck'. This will

always start with 1 and increase by 1 for each additional slide. While this

number is similar to the slide number it is offset by the starting page

number.

....and the ID number. The slide ID number is a unique number created

whenever a new slide is generated. This number stays with the slide within

the presentation regardless of location within the presentation.

If you link to a specific slide, then the link should follow the slide if it

is moved (select and drag) to another location within the presentation.

However, if you cut and paste, than the link will break. This last part is

because when you paste, you are creating new slides that have new ID

numbers.

If you link to a deleted slide than, naturally, that link will break.

Links to Next, Previous, Last, or First slide (thru action settings),

generally do not break, and will take you to the slide described.

Does this answer your question? If not, could you tell us how you were

moving slides so we can get a better idea of how to help?
