Hi, I'm a little confused regarding the migration I'm planning!

I have created a new W2003 Domain which I plan to migrate user accounts etc

from our existing NT4 Domain. I was planning to establish a two way trust

between the two domains to enable me to run them side by side until all

teething problems are resolved. As ADMT requires W2003 to be in Native mode,

will users logged onto the new domain still be able to access resources in

the NT4 domain. Does it just mean that any NT4 servers would not be able to

log onto the new domain?

Thanks, Neil.

Hi Neil,

With a AD 2003 in Native mode, you cannot have NT4 BDCs; but you can

have NT4 member servers and trust relationships with NT4 domains.

You may experience difficulties trying to stablish the trust

relationship since by default security policies in AD 2003 domains are

very restrictive. But it's not because the domain is in Native mode. If

you experience problems, try relaxing the security policies a little

bit.

Yes.

Make sure you have the trust relationship in place, and try to use ADMT

or like tool, that migrates SIDHistory. Since the SID cannot be

migrated, ADMT saves it to the SIDHistory, which allows users and

groups to access resources to which they had access before migration.

If it's not a name resolution problem, you should check the security

policies on your AD 2003.

Take a look at the following KB article:

There are a lot of things to consider, but I think it's all there...
