8/18/2005 10:06:37 AM    Drive Icon changed to unregistered icon?
I hate to be a nitpicker, but this is driving me crazy and probably means

nothing...

I am running SBS2003 standard with a C: (System) and D: (Data) partitions on

the drive. Within the last month the icon for the D: partition changed from

the cute little disk drive icon to the default icon that Microsoft uses for

files with no registered file extension associated with it. The C: icon is

still OK.

Would anyone know what caused this or how to get the proper icon displayed

again?

Thanks!

BS.

8/19/2005 7:01:30 AM    RE: Drive Icon changed to unregistered icon?
HI Bitsmasher,

Thanks for using SBS newsgroup.

Issue description:

============

From your description, I understand that you want to know why your default

disk icon is changed and how to change it back.

Analyzing and suggestions:

============

Generally speaking, the disk icon is coming from a DLL file, which

registered on the Windows registry. So if the icon is changed, that might

be caused by some application have change registry for this or there is

some special application put the files on the systemroot, in order to make

issue more clear, please help gather information below:

1.	Please carefully check the partition D to see if there is any

autorun.inf files put there, it might be a hidden files that add by some

third party services, if you can find it please delete it to see if the

issue can be resolved. (Please allow hidden files to display in the D, then

make a screenshot of the root directory of D and send to my email box

v-chayan@microsoft.com

2.	Is there any changed before the issue occur, as we know by default

Windows software will not change the icon of it, if possible please check

if you have installed some other application before the issue occur.

3.	Please also make a screenshot of disk management. (right click my

computer then choose management then navigate to disk management and make a

shot of it and sent to my mailbox.

Thanks for your effort, please kindly perform the tests and let me know. I

am glad to help you.

Best regards,

Charles Yang (MSFT)

Hi Charles,

I believe you are correct. Apparently a program installation package for a

printer was unzipped into the root od the D: drive and it had an autorun.inf

file with it. I have deleted all of these files but suspect I must reboot to

get the proper icon back in place. I just haven't had a good time to reboot

yet to test.

Thanks for your reply!
