Consider the following scenario please.

I have automatic reservation switched on for Sales Orders and Production. I
have main productions and sub-productions.

1.I create my sales order and add my line. I create a back-to-back
production order.

2.The status of my production order is "created". I run master planning and
as I expect there is no recommendations.

3.I move my production order through Operation Scheduling and Release and my
sub production orders appear.

4.Run master planning again everything as I expect.

5.I complete (report as finished) my sub-productions. The items produced go
into stock and are physically reserved against the prodlines associated with
my main item – as expected.

6.I run master planning - I NOW SEE RECOMMENDTIONS TO REMAKE MY
SUBPRODUCTIONS – I did not expect this. WHY DOES THIS HAPPEN? I ignore the
recommendations.

7.I continue and complete my main production.

8.I now see my main item in stock – physically reserved against my sales
line as expected.

9.I run master planning – I NOW SEE A RECOMMENDATION to REMAKE MY MAIN ITEM
– I did not expect this. Why?

CAN ANYONE HELP ME WITH THIS PROBLEM? Is it a known bug?

Thanks

Hi. If you are getting planned production orders when you have items in stock
it could be because you have positive days set too low. Master planning sees
the demand, but can't cover it with stock on hand unless you've set enough
positive days.
Same is true of negative days - you almost always want to stop master
planning creating a new planned order if there's an existing order out there
in the future.
Hope this helps.

Hi Tim

Thanks. However I believe my problem is due to the following:

In the help regarding BOM Version requirements in Coverage Groups - I quote

the items ordered are to be produced via a particular BOM version. If that
version IS NOT THE ACTIVE BOM VERSION FOR THE ITEM, THEN, IRRESPECTIVE OF THE
CURRENT STOCK ONHAND, A NEW PLANNED WORKS ORDER WILL BE CREATED WITH DERIVED
REQUIREMENT ACCORDING TO THE GIVEN BOM VERSION IN ORDER TO COVER THE
REQUIREMENT"

My question now is WHY? When does this make sense? What business scenario
does this cover??
