Com Surrogate not working... - Terry Farrell

Sunday, November 26, 2006 2:57 PM

I had this error throughtout the Beta testing right up to and including the
post RC2 version. At least in the RC versions it said the problem was fixed
in the final release.

This obviously hasn't been fixed. I still get COM Surrogate errors when I am
using Windows Explorer to move or copy video files to another folder or
another PC across the network. It also happens when opening a video file to
play in WMP.

Anyone any idea if there is a fix for this or if Microsoft is aware that the
problem still continues?

BTW, this is on the final of Windows Ultimate downloaded from MSDN and
installed on a freshly reformatted drive - so there are absolutely no
vestiges of previous betas present.

Do you have DIVX or Nero installed? - Chris Holmes [Chris123NT]

Do you have DIVX or Nero installed? Both are known to cause this issue.

You can use FFDShow instead of Divx and for Nero you can rename NeVideo.ax
in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ahead\DSFilter\

Hope this helps,

Chris

Chris

Yes. I'm a big DivX (and XDiv) fan but only have the Codecs for WMP
installed. I was a Nero fan - but not for much longer (after the problems
burning the Office 2007 ISO). I'll follow your suggestions.

Thanks: Terry

Get FFDShow Codec pack from sourceforge.net. - Gene Fitzpatrick

Monday, November 27, 2006 3:05 AM

Get FFDShow Codec pack from sourceforge.net. It will install all the codecs
you need, and it is completely Vista Compatible.
It will also stop any comm surrogate errors you are having.

Note: If you install Nero, you may or may not get the Com Surrogate errors,
but you WILL get the Run32 error in any folder with .mpg files. Roxio UI
sucks, but it doesn't cause errors.
