WSS URL strangeness

We have a WSS V2 Server named PRODPORTAL01 which is accessed by
PORTAL.DOMAIN.ORG
All relative navigation resolves to PORTAL.DOMAIN.ORG/site
...

We have been testing WSS V3 on a server, TESTPORTAL3.
Yesterday we changed our internal DNS entry TESTPORTAL.DOMAIN.ORG to point
to TESTPORTAL3 (as opposed to the old TESTPORTAL01

If I enter http://TESTPORTAL.DOMAIN.ORG the url in the browser address bar
will change to HTTP://TESTPORTAL3/default.aspx
If I enter http://TESTPORTAL.DOMAIN.ORGG/default.aspx in the browser address
bar, the url continues to be referenced by the FQ DNS name.

This inconsistancy has some interesting and possibly serious implications
for our shop.

Any ideas out there?

Hello David,

You may first check the web site's default page setting in IIS manager:

1. In IIS Manager, right click the site, and select properties
2. in Documents tab, check the default content page, Is the "default.aspx"
the top one? If you may try to remove others opinions and only leave
issue?

What are your alternate access mapping settings for the resolution of
testportal.domain.org?  Is it set to resolve to testportal3?

And the fact that it doesn't resolve when specifically addressing to the
aspx page is a problem I have had as well.  Well, in my environment it's a
problem...
