DRM Security Component Upgrade Failure - akastra

07-Apr-07 07:30:02
Trying to download songs from URGE. "Plays for sure" my butt. I am running
Vista, WMP 11. When I try to download a song, I get an error message "Data
Access Error" and am re-directed to "Windows Media Security Component
Upgrade" @ drmlicense.one.microsoft.com. Like others, I get a script error
on the page (Line 67 char 13 code 0: The parameter is incorrect) @
http://drmlicense.one.microsoft.com/Indivsite/en/indivit.asp. After I click
through on the error, the button to do the upgrade is greyed out. No other
options on the page.

So, I spent my evening trying to find a fix. I found KB article Article ID
Windows Media DRM protected content after you upgrade to Windows Media Player
11 or to Windows Vista"

Aha I thought - a direct hit - this will be easy. "Plays for sure" my butt.

This KB sends me to a new locale to do my Security Component Upgrade:
http://drmlicense.one.microsoft.com/crlupdate/en/crlupdate.html. This time
the button is not greyed out - and no script error - this is gonna be easy!

Click on the button, and...."An error was encountered during upgrade. If you
are still unable to play your content, additional help and support is
available on http://support.microsoft.com". "Plays for sure" my butt.

Of course, the support.microsoft.com site has no other info. So now I am
off to spend the Easter weekend with my family and re-install Limewire so I
can play music on my device, rather than buy it like a good boy.

If anyone out there knows how to unravel this mystery and make it possible
for me to obey the law and buy music from MICROSOFT'S OWN music service using
MICROSOFT'S OWN player and operating system. Please let me know.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Strat.

I saw your post yesterday. I found it and our problem interesing. Well, the problem was and is perplexing. I've been googling and punching around a lot over this. Anyway, I haven't finished with this as yet, but you might try googling 0x00D2751, and then selecting the link to Dathan's blog. He may be on to something. I'm sort of in process of trying the solution regarding the DRM file.

I'm having the same problem, was trying to install Sky Anytime and it bugs
out with a problem with DRM - have checked support.microsoft.com and end up
here -> http://drmlicense.one.microsoft.com/crlupdate/en/crlupdate.html - I
click on upgrade and am kindly informed that there is a problem and

After cursing the name of Microsoft for a very long time and getting quite
irate that a lot of people have the same problem and not a single ms guy out
there seems to know a fix (or in my mind cares) I figured I'd just do it the
old fassioned (illigal) way and download the stuff of bit torrent - hell if I
can't get what I want legally through no fault of my own.......

It's not a wonder piracy is still rife with stupid issues like this........

We apologize for any difficulties you are experiencing attempting to access URGE. If you are receiving the error: "Data Access Error" on the Windows XP with Service Pack 2 operating system please follow the instructions below to delete and re-set your DRM.

PLEASE NOTE: If you have downloaded songs from other music services (i.e. Napster, Rhapsody, etc), the instructions below will also delete the DRM for those files and possibly make them unplayable. Please be sure to back up your DRM prior to deleting it. You may also restore music that you downloaded from other services to your computer. Please consult your music service's knowledge base for more information.

1) Upgrade your Windows Media Player 11 to Version 5145 if you have not done so already by visiting the

URL below. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/11/default.aspx

2) Close Windows Media Player 11. Please Note: It is imperative that you close Windows Media Player prior to running the URGE DRM Re-set. Otherwise, the re-set will not work.

3) Download drmreset.exe from http://store.urge.com/updates/installers/drmreset.exe to your computer.

4) Double-click the drmreset.exe file and click "Run."

5) You will be prompted to re-set your DRM. Select "Yes."

6) If successful, you will receive the message "Windows Media DRM has been reset successfully." Click "Ok"

Same error - DRM "component could not be upgraded" error - yelra

18-Oct-07 11:02:02
don't know whether my fix will help or not. I just upgraded my
motherboard and was encountering the same issue. Nothing else seemed
to be working so I renamed my drm folder, closed IE, and then revisited
the web site to upgrade the security component - it worked. I'm
guessing that I've lost some rights to any licenses issued under the
prior DRM files - guess I'll find out soon.

The steps I took:

1) made the DRM file visible: (Start, my computer, tools, folder
options, click "show hidden files" and uncheck "hide protected
operating system files (recommended)")

2) found the DRM file under c:, documents and settings, all users.

3) renamed "DRM" to "Backupdrm" by right clicking
