Vista IE7 even in no add-ons will not show open web pages

Ric posted on Sunday, May 13, 2007 4:31 PM

Firefox doesn't have an issue, IE acts like it has loaded the page, but the
view field the web page shows up in is blank. I even get asked if I want to
allow cookies. Doesn't matter if I say yes or no...
I've cleared everything, tried both the 64 bit and 32 bit version, and with
no add-ons...all act the same. Funny, if I click on a link (when I had it my
default browser) in an email, it would sometimes open the web page...
Any ideas? Buhler, Buhler....

Do a thorough check for malware, following all of the steps at one of these
Web pages.
Help with malware:
All MS-MVP Sites.

Unexplained computer behavior may be caused by deceptive software.

So How Did I Get Infected Anyway?
For quite a few people it's by installing Messenger Plus, whose ads for
malware don't identify the malware as such and try to convince you that you
owe it to the author. See also:

Don't ever do a "default" install of anything. Always choose Custom and see
what else is being carried along. Don't install any extras you're not sure
of.

Hi,As Frank wrote, this could be a malware problem.

Hi,
As Frank wrote, this could be a malware problem. Also, have you tried the
Reset button in Internet Options> Advanced. Note that this will delete
stored (autocomplete) passwords. Do you have those recorded elsewhere? (Many
users don't.)

Turn on the Windows Firewall from Control Panel> Windows Firewall and
disable, as a test, your third-party firewall, security suite, AV,
antispyware programs.

Hope this helps,

Thanks for the replies, did all the above, even uninstalled Spybot to see if
that caused it, didn't seem to make a difference, and as far as network, if
it was network, Firefox wouldn't work, and neither would anything else that
needed network connectivity (Games, ect).
I even installed a couple other programs to check for malware,
ect...nothing. Checked running processes using process explorer, nothing
that is not system related...
Seems to be a problem with IE7 after the hotfixes from Tuesday....KB931768,
905866, 934062, 934393 and 934655.

You chose not to do everything at one of the sites I gave you, but if you
think it's one of the updates, but your Temporary Internet Files back in
their default location.

You could have that symptom with too tight security on some sites.
Reset all zones to default level or use Default Level security setting
for the zone you are having trouble with.

Post a link to a specific page on which you see the symptom
if you need more help.

That again sounds like customized settings, this time on the Privacy tab.
Use Default settings for it too.

Are you saying you took the day off? <eg>

Thanks Don, it registered fine, didn't help....It acts like something has
locked the first page...even if I choose another page from my favorites, or
type in a new page, the address on the tab goes right back to the original
site it was looking for when I opened it...first it was dellnet.msn.com,
then when I blew everything away and reset to defaults, its
go.microsoft.com/fwlink/.....the run once page.....

Sorry, don't know what I missed by your comment "You chose not to do
everything at one of the sites I gave you" , unless you mean netmon....but
again, all other network programs work fine, even another browser, so why
would you think it was network? Did I miss something else? I blew away all
cookies, tmp internet files, passwords, ect.....I only go to a few sites,
dell, MS, HP on my vista system...I have a play machine here that I go to
the other sites, googleing stuff like that....I think it's one of the
hotfixes, because that is when the problem started...I belong to the "what
changed" troubleshooting crowd... ;)
But I thank you for the suggestions and help....

You said:

Even a cursory reading of those sites would have given you other programs
and given you information about where to post your HijackThis log for
analysis by experts.
