WSUS - assign computers to groups via GPO - 86c6c2e6-214651271

Wednesday, May 30, 2007 1:30 PM

Hi,

I think I have my WSUS server and GPO's set up correctly, but clients are
not populating the WSUS computer group I created for them.

I suppose it takes a while for this to happen, but is there a way to speed
up the process? Is there a command I can run from the server or workstation
that would force the client machine to be placed in the WSUS group right away
(via the GPOs)?

Thanks!

Hello Bob,

Thank you for using newsgroup!

From your post, my understanding on this issue is: you want to assign
computers to WSUS groups by group policy. If I have misunderstood your
problem, please feel free to let me know.

You need three steps to achieve your goal:
1. Setup group policy as you have done.
2. Create the WSUS group in the WSUS console. It doesn't matter which level
you create this group but the group name must be same with the one you set
in the group policy.
3. Open WSUS console, click Options->Computers, select "Use Group Policy or
registry settings on computesr" setting and click OK.

Then, you can refresh group policy on client side by the command "gpupdate
/force" and force the clients to contact WSUS by the command "wuauclt
/detectnow".

Hope my reply could help.
