VM Additions Crash/Blue Screen Vista Host

nrm posted on Sunday, June 03, 2007 3:54 AM

I just fresh installed Vista business as a host on Vista Ultimate. All went
well until after the install completed, when I tried to install VM Additions.
After VM Additions was installed it rebooted the VM and thereafter, blue
screened / crashed everytime I tried to start the host VM from cold.

In the end I had to recover back to the last known good boot state, and
uninstall the Additions again.

Any ideas what is wrong? I couldn't get to read the blue screen text before
it disappeared so I have no idea what the source of the trouble was.

Thanks

Sorry, terminology failure: please substitute "Guest" for "Host" in the above
post.

Unfortunately, as I said, the screen clears before I can read the blue screen

Unfortunately, as I said, the screen clears before I can read the blue screen
information.

Anyway I am pleased to report that after compacting the VHD (from 14GB down
to a more manageable 6GB) and repeating the VM Additions installation, the
problem has not re-occurred and I have now successfully got them installed.
