Vista clean install - device cannot find enough free resources.

iplo posted on Wednesday, June 27, 2007 12:51 PM

Hello:

I've built a new pc and installed Windows Vista Ultimate (clean install, not
upgrade). I have installed all device drivers and all updates from Windows
Update.

I look in "device manager" and see a yellow exclamation mark beside "NVIDIA
nForce System Management Controller".

Here are screenshots of the errors I'm seeing:

My system specs are:

AMD Athlon 64 (4200) X2 Dual Core Processor
ASUS M2N-MX Motherboard http://tinyurl.com/2juj5v
2GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 6600 512MB PCI-E Video Card
Acer AL2017 20.2" Monitor
SoundMAX Integrated Digital HD Audio
NVIDIA nForce Networking

I have searched online and found very little help regarding this issue. I
would appreciate any suggestions or help in fixing this problem.

Thank you.

You said you've installed all drivers from Windows Update. Have you checked
the nVidia website for the latest Vista compatible drivers for your card.
Usually, the latest drivers don't come from Windows Update and nVidia in
particular has been having a lot of issues with drivers. There's also a
link at the nVidia site wherein you can report issues with their drivers.

This would appear to be an indication that drivers are needed for your
motherboard chipset. Since you built your machine from scratch, you should
have a CD or two that was furnished with your motherboard. Check the CD (s)
for any reference to this particular NVIDIA S.M. Controller. You could also
check the motherboard manufacturer`s website for any updated drivers if they
are not available on your CD (s). Finally - if you can not remedy this
situation via these methods, I would leave well enough alone. If everything
is running to your satisfaction, do not let that little " quirk " bother
you. Good luck .... JRH.
