Migrating domains (MOSS 2007) - any guides/information/tips? - mtcmorri

Thursday, August 16, 2007 7:30 PM

Hi Everyone,

I have a situation where I need to migrate an existing MOSS 2007
installation to a new Active directory domain. Now the old AD
accounts will be migrated across however (am I correct here?) the
GUID's will change stuffing up the permissions/settings/accounts
(ACLs) on the SharePoint sites (fyi we would fall into category two
here http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms430980.aspx ).

I've googled a fair bit for info however I can't seem to find much of
a "step-by-step" on how to do this - most information around
tips/useful resouces/wise insights I'd love to see them.

Thanks!

stsadm -o migrateuser

-oldlogin <domain\name>

-newlogin <domain\name>

[-ignoresidhistory]

Just change the AD domain for the newlogin.

For anyone else doing this, I would recommend setting up a brand newDomain - mtcmorri

For anyone else doing this, I would recommend setting up a brand new
Domain account (that didn't exist on the old domain) or else you get a
data. Also use backup/restore rather than import/export.

Good luck for others attempting this!

Michael
