It looks like MS have at last turned off the tap for the old Windows Live Mail

Ildhund posted on Wednesday, August 22, 2007 6:02 PM

It looks like MS have at last turned off the tap for the old Windows
Live Mail Desktop beta, that was retired at the end of May and
replaced by Windows Live Mail beta. Anyone still running versions up
to 8.0.1226 will now have to uninstall it and install the newer
client, currently (but probably not for very much longer) 12.0.1184.
See
http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.windows.live.mail.desktop/msg/e703a9172f75825d
for where to get it.

Well, I solved my problem. Im running Vista Ultimate. I downloaded
the latest version for Vista 12.0.1184 and it worked to pull in my
hotmail. I just didnt want to go to the latest version because I rely on
the audio alerts, and thats not working for this version yet, from what
I understand. But...it did take care of the hotmail problem.
Hope that helps! Go make sure you have the latest version for your
OS.

There have been numerous announcements here about the new
version of WLM which replaced WLMd.

US residents can download the current version of WLM here:

Others will need to use the direct download link:

If you tell me your incoming (POP3) server name, I can query it via

heartache for other users.

Thanks justin, will we see a blog about this problem/solution at
http://wlmailclient.spaces.live.com/ given that it is so widespread?

By the way, you keep giving the download location as
http://get.live.com/betas but for most countries outside the US, this page
does not provide a link to Windows Live Mail Beta (as you are surely
aware?). We need to go straight to the page
http://get.live.com/en-us/betas/maildesktop_betas to get the latest
version. Also, the link http://get.live.com/betas/maildesktop_betas only
takes us to a page supplying Windows Live Mail Desktop Beta. I hope that
problem gets sorted soon also.

Ron,
My suspicion is that JB responded to an old thread.

Gigdet had a problem with sync'ing a Hotmail account
Justin's response to Gidget may have suggested use of the WLM beta(pre Nov 2007) at getlive beta site

The only other possibility(very remote) is Gigdet was using Outlook and needed the OLC current beta, but that beta is not available
from the getlive beta site(thus Justin's response wouldn't make any sense).

JB should start a new thread<g> in the community interface
