Streets & Trips 2008 How to un-register? - A

Wednesday, August 29, 2007 2:54 PM

With previous version of S&T I could install it on my 3 PCs. Now it
apparently only allows 2. Question, how can I "unregister" it from a PC so I
can put it on another?

Once it's registered it won't allow the 3rd one. The 3rd will only run 60
days. Want to get it un-registered from one of the other 2 and put it on the
3rd. Can anyone help?

Unfortunately, there is no way to deactivate installation on-line (some
programs do have such feature). But I do believe there is a phone number
which you can use to explain to Microsoft that you uninstalled from one PC
and you wish to install on another PC. I'm not sure how this will work in
real life, though. If you attempt to do this, then perhaps let us know.

Thank your for your help on this. Went through the registration process
using the phone in option rather than internet. You have to go through the
automated process, let it fail, and then you get connected to an agent. I
explained what the issue was and the agent was able to help me get the
software registered on the proper PC.

Thanks, I'm glad it was possible to achieve what you needed. Did the process
involve de-activation of S&T 08 on one of your previous installations? (Or
did they just took your word for it?)

They took my word for it. Learned, however, if you loose your install (hard
drive crash, PC rebuild, etc.) you have to do this.

1) Since the requirement was that you first attempt to activate before you
phone, I wonder if they could see your IP number (of the failed activation),
and other info. That way they might have been able to verify your story.

2) I think if your computer crashes, if you need to re-install S&T or even
reformat hard drive and reinstall Windows, I think you will still be able to
activate on-line with no problem. I tried (just to test this), to uninstall
S&T 08, and then re-install it on the same PC. I was able to activate it
again. That was my 3rd activation on-line - 2nd activation on the same PC.

Bad analagy.
Without violating the EULA, you can run S&T on two different computers at
the same time. Try doing that with a music CD on your two stereos.

It was mentioned in this thread that you can install Streets & Trips 2008 it
on two machines. I read in an Amazon review that you can install on 1
desktop and 1 laptop. Is that true or can you install on 2 machines
regardless of whether they are desktop or laptop?

Thanks

When you start Streets & Trips, the cursor is in the Find place or address
box.
Streets & Trips is also a map program.
You can look up addresses without connecting to the Internet.
Route Planner is another feature to use on a desktop.

I believe that back in the old days the intent of the two-installs-license
was to allow route planning to be typically done on a computer in a fixed
location with printer, internet, Excel, etc available. The map would then
be transferred to a portable computer for use during the actual trip. That
is how I use it. The line between desktop and laptop has been blurred in
recent years. Sometimes my portable computer is in my lap and sometimes it
is on top of a desk.

I'm just considering buying the $39 version without the GPS unit. - Brend

I'm just considering buying the $39 version without the GPS unit. I like to
plan routes and print maps from my desktop as does my husband on his
computer. We do our own searching and compare notes. Then we have a small
handheld GPS for our car. So that is why I am wondering if Streets & Trips
2008 can be used on two desktops.

The license afreement I believe says something to the effect that users are
allowed to install on one desktop and one portable device (which is in many
cases a laptop, notebook, TabletPC, or a UMPC).
