I can't upgrade to Windows Live Hotmail.

Alan posted on Thursday, October 25, 2007 9:54 PM

I currently use MSN Hotmail. When I signed up many years ago, my ISP was
Verizon with MSN Premiun. When I try to upgrade now to Windows Live Hotmail,
I can't because "Your account is with one of our partners and has additional
features that Windows Live Hotmail doesn’t support yet". After corresponding
with Microsoft, they said I couldn't participate because I use Verizon with
MSN Premium. My current ISP is not Verizon anymore. It's Comcast. I
emailed Microsoft a couple of times explaining this, but they don't reply any
more. Any suggestions on what to do next would be appreciated.
Thanks, Alan

Basically, sit tight. I have at least one account in the same condition. It is a
profile thing for the account type. You will be upgraded eventually.

I understand that things take time, but what I don't understand is why my
wife's Hotmail account (accessed from the same computer) has been
automatically upgraded & I still can't upgrade manually. Thanks

Your account was originally a Verizon with MSN Premium account, is how I
understand your original post, even though you don't use Verizon any more.
I am guessing you now have a $9.95 a month MSN Premium account? Are you
still using MSN Explorer, or are you using the (free) Hotmail web portal to
read your mail? One way to look at this, is that your account is still kept
in the same catalog file as the rest of the Verizon with MSN Premium
accounts. You don't get upgraded, until all the Verizon with MSN Premium
customers do. This is strange behavior, I agree.

There is no reason to want this upgrade anyway. You should be grateful for
having to wait. Maybe by the time they upgrade your account they will have
most of the bugs out. Btw I have Qwest DSL with MSN Premium and "upgraded"
some time ago.

Cheers,

Earle

Who can know the mind of Microsoft?

I'd guess that your account still has some kind of phantom connection with
the long gone Verizon account. I see a similar situation with a free Yahoo!
Mail account I have. Once upon a time I merged it with an SBC account. Then
I closed the SBC account, which was supposed to unmerge the Yahoo! Mail
account. It still shows up with the (now AT&T) ISP logo, even though it
should be just an ordinary free Yahoo! Mail account.

If MSN insists on making their ISP partners wait, and your account was once
with an ISP partner, but is now just a free account, you probably won't get
any support (free means "no support"), and will just have to wait it out.

Why do you want to "upgrade?

Why do you want to "upgrade?" I really dislike the new "Live Hotmail" user
interface. I hate having fonts that sometimes get larger. I hate having
subject lines that are multiple lines. The user options seem more limited. I
don't see anything good about "Live Hotmail" at all.
