Standby button dimmed - Tyr

After reinstalling Windows XP, the Stanby button is dimmed (Start / Turn Off/
Standby)  and can therfore not be used. If I push SHIFT it dosent change into
Hybernate as it did before. I find nothing in the Poweroptions in the control
pannel to enable. Pls. Help
