I'm upgrading our problem server to Sp2 tonight and all post SP2 updates
also - I'll let you know.
As a side note, all Backups now fail on this server too - and it appears
that some Windows Update is what screwed the pooch for both of these
problems.

This is a known issue with SAV 10.1. It appears to be resolved in 10.1.7.
The only way we have been able to resolve it is to have the user's restart
their workstations. There is also a MS KB on this, but the registry solution
it gives won't always resolve the issue.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/932463
However, interestingly enough, I have one computer where I upgraded it to
SAV 10.1.7. The problem went away; so, I used NoNav to completely remove
10.1.7 and installed 10.1.4 again so we could do more testing with the
issue... except, the issue hasn't come back. So, one possible solution would
be to use NoNav to remove SAV completely on that machine; then, re-install.
Ugly temp fix.. and I'm not positive at this point that it truly is a fix.
Time will tell.
I'm also going to play with some of the SAV settings... because a scan seems
to cause the issue. I'm going to try disabling hueristics to see what
happens.
By the way, 9.x doesn't have this issue... but then you don't get the
security threat protection, which represents the majority of threats these
days. |

I just recently have been experiencing this problem on our network.
We have Win 2003 servers in our domain and the only drives that
disconnect are mapping to this one server (however not all mapped
drives on that server have the problem). If you are the same person
logging off and back on the drives say disconnected but still work.
However if you are a different user you get Acces Denied on these
drives because of permissions. It is actually connected to the
previous user and the current user does not have those permissions. I
have tested this being a network admin. I logged on a machine and got
the disconnected drives. When accessing them I could because I had
rights. I expected to see my personal home directory files, however I
got the files of the previous users home directory. Rebooting always
resolves the problem until a second user logs on. I was thinking it
may be a recent windows update but am not sure. I have read many
fixes and none have worked. I am stumped since this has worked up
until a few weeks ago.
Also you cannot Right-Click on these disconnected drive to disconnect
them. You get an error that the network connection cannot be found.
I hope someone out there has a fix!

I haven't been able to find anything on Symantec's site (link in MS
knowledgebase does not go to valid page any more) and the fix from MS
has not helped. I had SAV 10.1.5 for many months before this problem
appeared. I tried to uninstall Norton and installed version 10.1.6 (I
have not found version 10.1.7). Still has not helped. I have also
used NoNav. Since this is happening on 100's of computers the NoNav -
reinstall is not a great solution for me. Could there possibly be
some other type of problem any one else has seen?

We're having the exact same problem. Tried many fixes.
We are running SAV 10.1 and have been for many many months - this just
started a few weeks ago.
I have read something about having logon scripts to map network drives
running from active directory simultaneously with scripts running in
group policy causing problems - haven't been able to test this theory
out.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

I applied for and was sent a web link for a fix:
KB Article Number(s): 885887
Language: English
Platform: i386
I have applied this fix to 7 test computers in the network that were
experiencing the problem, it takes a couple reboots as an admin, but the
problem seems to have been resolved in this.
Now, I have two terminal servers, one is showing the problem, the other
is not, and the patch won't apply to a Windows 2003 Server, only to XP,
so I'm not sure what to do there.
I have symantec 10.0.x installed on those machines, 10.1.x was a mess,
it really trashed roaming profiles, and we have 200+ users on that
network that all have roaming profiles. Moving back to 10.0.x was not
simple, we had to physically uninstall 10.1.x from every computer as we
Symantec would not push/overwite 10.1.x with 10.0.x from the server.
I used the automated patch download site, had the patch in a couple
hours, try it.

We did an upgrade to 10.1.6.6000 and this started happening after a
little bit of time after the upgrade. Would there be some settings in
the SAV Corp that can be changed to fix this.
I am thinking of turning off the unnecessary features in SAV and then
maybe deleting the NIC and reinstalling it to repair the TCP/IP stack. |

I turned off the network scanning and scan for security risks; and it
seems to have stopped the disconnected status for now on my machine,
lets see after a full day tomorrow. I believe that it is a new
feature and we didn't have this problem with the older versions of
SAV, lets see what happens. |

Didn't work, and as others are seeing this, none of the patches from MS
have worked.
One person has reported that a reg cleaner fixed it on their machines.

We're having the same issue in our School District here in NH. We're
at SAV 10.0.2.2000. The next time we get a complaint, I'm going to
run down to the PC and try a registry cleaner. I'll report back any
results I get from that.

So far there is no fix.
I would reinstall 10.2 (actually 10.1.5) on the systems except we have
massive roaming profile problems with 10.2 installed.
We also have Symantec End Point Protection, but in testing it causes
problems for wireless NIC's in laptops - keeps causing their LAN
connection to drop (removing SEPP resolves it, can repeat).
I'm about to remove Symantec and switch to something else, but I've
never found anything I like better.

I just uninstalled Symantec Corp for W/S 10.0.x on 5 systems, not the
server, and installed AVG as a test, will run a couple days to see how

I had the same problem with SAV 10.0.x. Then i upgraded all
computers to 10.1.5. The problem went away for two days, then
appeared on some of the computers (not all) again.
Now I upgraded all to 10.1.7.x. The problem re-appeared again after
one week. very strange. It will appear to be OK when newly
installed, then the problem will resurface after few days.
I will going to try 10.2.x
systems are running Windows xp sp2.
I am very disappointed by SAV products. But don't have much choice
since we purchase non-profit license at discounted price. If budgets
allow, I would much rather move to F-Secure. |

Has anyone looked at the correlation of the timing of the onset of the
problem in relation to the timing of Scan Engine updates?? It just
strikes me as odd that it would "appear fine" for a few days after an
upgrade or downgrade, and then go belly up... It seems to me that
within those few days LiveUpdate could have updated a common component
to all versions, and that update may be what's causing it, as we've
been running 10.0.2.2000 for some years now, and the "Disconnected"
Home directory problem is only creeping up in the last few months and
a half or so...
Just a thought to toss around....
