Norton Internet Security 2008

Huib posted on Tuesday, March 04, 2008 5:08 AM

Hi,

I am intended to install the above packet.
From earlier communication on the forum i dedected that there is really a
problem using Norton SW with Vista.

Is this still the case?

Would it be better with SP1?

If i would use it nevertheless is there any conflict between Windows
defender & the antispyware function from Noron?

Hi,

By reading your post it doesn't seem to matter what we say you are going to
try it anyway. I really suggest you think many times over before you install
that CRAPWARE on your system.

If you insist, you better uninstall any Virus software you now have. Any and
ALL spyware programs and turn off Windows Defender. BTW, NIS will disable
your Firewall and use it's version.

I'm not going to list a bunch of reviews, good or bad. You seen to have done
some homework, but here is one link and if you decide to uninstall you will
have to use their Norton Removal Tool to get rid of everything.

Don't install Norton on *any* operating system. I would recommend
Avast!. it is good and it is free. www.avast.com

Hi SG,Thanks for reaction & the references.

Hi SG,
Thanks for reaction & the references.
The point is i am getting the package for free from my provider.
I asked the question again because it could be that there was an evolution
from Semantic & Vista SP1 to work better togther.

You convinced me not to use it and i am indeed not intended to blow up the
good performance of my Vista.

NOD32 is way too expensive. You can get Kaspersky for $10 at ebay.

Norton Internet Security 2008

I've just removed Norton Internet Security 2008 from my laptop - a 3-
month trial came free with it. I never had any intention of paying
for it because I've had bad experiences with several versions of
Norton Anti-Virus before but I wish I'd decided to remove it earlier.
I've had two problems which I realised were due to it: I couldn't add
search providers to IE7 unless I disabled UAC - as soon as I
uninstalled NIS, it worked as designed. Also, I couldn't install
Citrix Presentation Server, not even if I disabled UAC. What a load
of junk!
