undertsand why there seem to be just me and you and that guy in the german

No, I do not talk to any one... I just uninstall the update and I block it
from future installation. I will try to talk with someone from HP today.

Yesterday I found a thread in the HP Business Support Forums. There they say
that it is the Broadcom NIC driver in some of the newer HP Servers. One guy
got a ftp link in order to fetch a driver that is not yet downloadable via
www.hp.....

Issue is related with the SNP that came with 2003 SP2
You do not need to uninstall SP2 to fix
To fix perform the following
Change the following registry key values to "0" and reboot
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters
EnableRSS == 0
EnableTCPA == 0
Enabletcpchimney == 0
The issue is the Broadcom drivers for the HP NC373i adapters (Among
others) HP has released updated drivers but they do not always work.

Ok, you found that thread. But what remains for me is that I am still not
sure about a save way to fix this issue. In the thread there is said that
implementing KB948496 will help. For me with this patch the trouble began.

Where I work we have a number of HP systems that have been affected by
this issue, so I have been following this issue for a while.
We were updating the Drivers with the versions released around
12/18/2007 but have had inconsistent results and instead have since
been disabling the relevant registry entries that I mentioned.
We did not apply the patch so I can't speak to that.
This has largely worked but there have been apparently some instances
where the problem reasserts itself. I think there has been yet another
updated driver released, although I am not sure as I am on the
periphery of the troubleshooting of this issue at this time.
The one change that has resolved this issue permanently in every
posting I have read is to replace the adapters with those based on an
Intel chipset (NC110T I think), for a number of reasons we are not
going this route. I believe that if you pester HP long enough they may
ship them to you.
The best results, short of replacing the card, are disabling the
advanced features in the registry and the adapter properties.
