KB948496, 2003 x64 server stops net functions - Thomas

A 2003 x64 server provides since last patch tuesday no net functionality
anymore.

Error:

All services run
No entries in the event log
Ping to the server goes
No RDP
No "Net View"
...

KB948496 patch has been installed. After uninstalling the patch everything
was fine again.
This patch probably at least for some x64 machines is not recommended. In my
case this is a HP385 G2, AMD64
