USB Devices not not working or recognised following vista updates - Gar

12-Apr-08 04:04:01
Hi all,

It would appear that following a series of windows vista updates, non of my
USB ports work. Device manager recognises the hardware, but provides the
following message "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware.
The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)"

I have tried system restore, uninstalling & re-installing etc.

The driver details are for "Intel(R) 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB Universal Host
Controller - 27C8", "Intel(R) 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB Universal Host
Controller - 27C9", "Intel(R) 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB Universal Host
Controller - 27CA", "Intel(R) 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB Universal Host
Controller - 27CB" and "Intel(R) 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB Universal Host
Controller - 27CC"

Any help would be greatly appreciated. BTW, my macnine is a HP DV2000
Laptop and is running Vista Home Premium 32 Bit.

USB Devices not not working or recognised following vista updates - FredAnbe

Hi Gary,
I had the same problem. In my case the files usbstore.inf and usbstore.pnf
were missing in my \windows\inf directory.
I made a subdirectory in \windows\inf called usbstorage. I copyed this two
files from a XP machine and also COPYED usbstore.sys from
\windows\system32\drivers (thus the vista version)
After this I plugged in my MP3 player and it worked!! Also my navigation
device and my foto camera.
If you're also missing this two files, try this.

Thanks for the reply Fred, much appreciated. Unfortunately for me the files
were there, i tried removing but it would not allow me to do so. In the end
I had to do a complete system restore :-(
