There are not that kind of restrictions.
The restrictions are things like
- can only be used with the single server installation
- can't be used for any other kinds of databases
- no administration tools (although that's only partly true as you can
isntall the SQL Server 2005 Express management Suite (and if you have
full SQL Server 2005 somewhere use that
- certain restrictions on remote access (about which I don't know the
details)
but not restrictions on typical basic *SharePoint* functionality.

I don't see why not, but I'll leave this question to people with more
backup/restore experience than me whose experience might provide a
different answer or details on how to do it best.

Hello All
Am I right in saying that the Windows Internal Databse that come with
WSS3.0 doesn't have any limits as far as database size is concerned. I
thought it had a 4GB limit but reading some posts on this forum it
would indicate not so.
Many thanks

Sorry just to add to this. Is there any restrictions with the windows
internal database mode of operating. Im assuming I can still create
host header sites in exactly the same way I do now using a SQL
backend.
Thanks

Superb, thanks Mike. Seems like I have been wasting money on SQL
server licenses when I could of made do with the WID.
Next question: Can I migrate SQL server based WSS databases to the
WID?
I have a setup which is 1 WSS FE server and a SQL backend. I would
like to migrate the WSS databases from the SQL server to the FE server
and use WID. The FE server only has a handful of site collections and
a low number of users and they are unlikely to grow much.
Thanks
