Custom Assembly Info Removed from Config? - Phil Sandler

09-May-08 08:07:01
Woke up this morning to a new problem in my test environment for
reporting services. The test environment is VMWare. The error was:

made to use a data extension 'xxxx' that is not registered for this
report server."

As it turns out, the reference to the custom assembly was somehow
removed from my .config file. Adding it back fixed the problem.

We restarted the server a number of time when diagnosing the problem.
It's possible updates were installed and it was restarted last night
as well (I can verify this if it matters--I don't manage that box).
If SQL Server got patched with a security update, would it remove
custom extension assembly information from the config file?

Any other thoughts on how this could have happened? I'm concerned
that the same thing could happen in production, so I need to get to
the root cause.

Thanks for any insight,

Phil
