"The file exists" Windows CE 5.0 + Windows Server 2008 - Pablo Toapanta

Monday, June 09, 2008 11:02 AM

Hi everyone,

I'm working with windows CE 5.0 Operating System and Windows Server 2008.
When I try to map a windows ce drive with Remote Desktop Connection
application and open it in windows explorer terminal server session I'm
getting this error message: "\\tsclient\files\hard disk is not accessible.
You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the
administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The
file exists." All folders and units are listed, but I can not access to
them. With the same Windows CE 5.0 and Windows Server 2003 I don't have any
problem.

I hpe you can help me with this, thanks.

Are you creating the CE kernel or are you a user of a CE device? - Michel Verhagen (eMVP)

Are you creating the CE kernel or are you a user of a CE device? This
problem has been addressed by a QFE, IIRC, but only the device
manufacturer/OEM can install QFE's and generate a new kernel for your
device.

Good luck,

Hi Michel,I have installed all the QFEs for Windows CE 5. - Pablo Toapanta

Hi Michel,

I have installed all the QFEs for Windows CE 5.0 but now the Windows CE on
my device doesn't work, the bootloader shows the progress bar but then the
Windows CE doesn't start. I think one of the QFEs affect my Windows CE that
was working. I hope your answer thanks.

Did you ever change code in the PUBLIC or PRIVATE trees? - Michel Verhagen (eMVP)

Did you ever change code in the PUBLIC or PRIVATE trees? Are you using a
cloned BSP or did you modify a MS supplied BSP?

If you modified code in place it may have been overwritten by a QFE
(that's why you should NEVER modify in place, always clone, see my blog
for more info).

The QFE's install a backup of the files they replace, you can find them
in \WINCEX00\Updates\Backup. Review & compare those files and see if you
can figure out which one messed it up for you.

Good luck,

Hi Michel,

I've installed all the QFEs without results, could you tell me the exact QFE
that solves this issue?, I hope your answer thanks.

I would have to search the readme. - Michel Verhagen (eMVP)

I would have to search the readme.htm's of all QFE packages, and that's
something you can do to. If you installed them all you can search them
in folder \WINCE500\Updates. I did a quick search and can't find it, but
you should read through all of the release notes and see if it's there.
It may have been a QFE only for CE 6, in which case you should read all
the release notes of the QFE packages for CE 6 and if you find it open a
support case with MS and ask for that QFE on CE 5.

Besides that; are you sure you've got all required components (like file
server) on the CE thin client?

Good luck,

Hi Michel,Thanks for your answer. - Pablo Toapanta

Hi Michel,

Thanks for your answer. I thinks it's not necesary the file server component
because everything works ok with windows server 2003 without the file server
component. So I think I need to open a case with Microsoft in order to solve
this, thanks.
