Body type not supported by Remote Host - meeting replies |

We have an Exchange 2007 server that sends it's mail out via an IIS
SMTP server and gets it's mail from another holding server (it uses
POP to get the mail). An outside user sends a meeting request to an
internal Exchange server (going through the holding server). The
internal Exchange user accepts the meeting request and sends the
response (typical end user Outlook action). For some domains, the end
user gets the following error back from Exchange:
I'm not 100% sure which server is sending this back, either the IIS
SMTP server or the Exchange 2007 server.
I've read that I may need to change the Mime type, but would like to
confirm which server needs this change and how to make this change?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks, |

This would be done on your SMTP relay not your Exchange 2007 as it
uses the transport service and not SMTP.

Issue ehlo to your smtp relay and see if 8-bitmime shows up. |

Issue ehlo to your smtp relay and see if 8-bitmime shows up. Before
you do this; you can try creating a dedicated send connector to this
domain and use helo instead of ehlo and test sending a new meeting
request.

The IIS SMTP relay server returns:
ehlo
250-mail.xxxxxxxx.com Hello [127.0.0.1]
250-TURN
250-SIZE 5242880
250-ETRN
250-PIPELINING
250-DSN
250-ENHANCEDSTATUSCODES
250-8bitmime
250-BINARYMIME
250-CHUNKING
250-VRFY
250 OK
So, if I make the change to use 7bit, then the Meeting acceptance
messages should go through? Are there any other issues to be aware of
by making this change (ie, mail being refused by other mail servers)?

On Aug 12, 8:13=A0pm, "Rich Matheisen [MVP]"
A detail on this that doesn't really make sense to me:
If you accept the meeting request using OWA, the message goes through.
If you accept the meeting request using Blackberry device which uses
BES, the message goes through. |

Strange encoding handles encoding same way. What Outlook version are
you using and what client mode ie pop\imap\mapi?

Outlook 2007 using mapi. We tested one situation again, having the
outside person send a meeting request. We accepted the meeting and it
was received successfully by the outside person. So it seems to not be
consistent. I'm not going to give much credence to the OWA "working"
as it came from an end user.

Did you ask if they are using Exchange 5.5? |

Did you ask if they are using Exchange 5.5? How many domains have you
had issues with so far? Also is there a particular reason you're
relaying through a smtp server?
