So How Did I Get Infected Anyway?
For quite a few people it's by installing programs like Messenger Plus,
whose ads for malware don't identify the malware as such and try to convince
you that you owe it to the author. See also:

Don't ever do a "default" install of anything. Always choose Custom and see
what else is being carried along. Don't install any extras you're not sure
of.

I forgot to mention that i have scanned my pc for viruses and spyware using - jammi |

I forgot to mention that i have scanned my pc for viruses and spyware using
Avast anitivirus and Windows Defender and all say im clean.
I have been a windows XP user since 2001 and i know the security issues to
look out for.
I have used the same precautions on vista as i used on my old XP machine,
and i didnt have a problem on XP while using Avast Antivirus, windows
defender and Zonealarm firewall. Isnt vista meant to be more secure anyway?
The problems seemed to start on day 2 (its now day 4) after it installed
updates. It prompted me to reboot, but it didnt do anything when i clicked
reboot. it just locked up. The HDD light wasnt on, I waited for 15 mins and
still nothing, CTRL + ALT + DELETE did nothing either.
I wasnt prepaired to wait any longer so i pressed the power button untill
it switched off. Upon rebooting i told it to start windows normaly, I didnt
get any error messages or messages saying your system has recovered form a
serious error, or that the updates had failed to install.
It was after this I started to notice that the web browsers were
unreliable. It has installed more updates since (on day 3) the first batch of
updates that crashed my PC, and the problem got so bad using firefox that it
would stop working when you click on the first link or button. I have
uninstalled firefox now as its unusable.
Is uninstalling/reinstalling the windows updates an option?
IE7 will go for about 30 min's to a few hours before it fails.
Many thanks

Visit the Control Panel and choose Programs and Features, then under Tasks
on the bar at left click on Installed updates. Then choose and uninstall the
newest update. See if that solves the problem, repeat until the install date
is prior to the time you started to have problems. If your problem isn't
solved, it wasn't caused by the updates. I would reinstall the updates. |

dont computers work????
I have just found the Microsoft updates, and there are 33 of them! I don't
really have time to remove one at a time and see if the problem is corrected.
If that is the case then I think it might be easier just to reinstall
Windows Vista altogether. Are there any other things I can try to resolve
this without having to remove 33 individual updates? I have reset Internet
explorer seven to default settings, and the problem still exists. I only
have the default plug Ins installed, and they all disabled.
Why doesn't problem reporting show any problems with Internet explorer,
although I suppose it technically doesn't crash as I can still open and close
Internet explorer, I just can't view anything. It is hard to tell if
Internet explorer has crashed, or if a website is just being slow.
But when it actually has cashed and I can't even load google, it will take
ages for my computer to restart. If it hasn't crashed, my computer will
restart really quickly.
I never had any trouble when using windows XP,
I even have trouble with my mouse that came with my new Packard bell
computer, 50% of time it isn't recognized when I turn on my computer! I have
to unplug it and plug it back in again, if something as simple as a mouse
cannot be recognized when I turn on my computer I think there are some
serious issues that need to be addressed.
Any ideas what I can do to make my computer run reliably? Scanning my hard
drive for viruses and spyware continuously is just a complete waste my time
as nothing is ever found, it is really frustrating that you go out and spend
a lot of money on a new computer and it doesn't work as well as your old one!
I had a blue screen of death the other day just by turning on my Logitech
web cam! Yes I have the vista drivers installed for it, so I have no idea
why it crashed my whole Computer.
I'm not impressed with Windows Vista so far, sure it's got some nice
features, but the basic features just don't seem to be working to great the
moment.
Any help would be most appreciated
Many thanks
