Visual Studio 2005 SP1 Installation Failure Error: 0x643 - gocat200

Every time I try to install SP1 it fails

This is on Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard SP2

Any suggestions would be gratefully received

Since it is on Win Server2003, you may have experiencing the same problem I - Norman Yuan

Since it is on Win Server2003, you may have experiencing the same problem I
had. The reason could be because of the default software restriction policy
in Win2003. You can try this:

1. Make sure you are a local admin to this computer;
2. Go to Start->Run->gpedit.msc to start Group Policy Editor
3. Navigate to "Computer Configuration->Windows Settings->Security
Settings->SoftwareRestriction Policies.
4. If no policy is defined, right-click it to create one;
5. On right window, right-click "Enforcement", select "Properties";
6. Select "All users exceot local administrators" radio button.
7. Apply the change and clock Group Policy Editor;
8. Reboot the computer, and try in apply VS2005 SP1 again.

I had the exact same problem - it is now HEALED!  See KB925336 - after
installing the patch, SP1 installed without errors - and that was last week

Is that you using a stanalone ISO image for installing. If so, you can try
installing by appending the '/log' switch from the command line of you
console window.
