You can do anything with it the licensing permits. It does not permit
installation as a member server or any 'regular' server status. You can
install it without optional componets, but it will not have be able to have any
security ties to the SBS2008 domain.

Can I do anything with my SBS 2003 server after migrating to SBS 2008?

slappy posted on Wednesday, November 04, 2009 12:12 AM

I have successfully completed a migration to SBS 2008. I have a few
applications running on a W2K server that I'd like to migrate to
something newer. Can I do a new installation of SBS 2003, without
installing Exchange or any of the "SBS Stuff," and having it act as a
regular old member server? I seem to recall there was an option to
install SBS without all the additional components, and it would work
as a regular server for 5 users, or did I make this up?

If you cannot install 2003 as a "regular" server, is there anything
else you can do with the OS in an SBS 2008 environment other then eBay
it?

You cannot even install it without creating a domain for it - it cannot be

You cannot even install it without creating a domain for it - it cannot be a
workgroup server either. There is really nothing at all you can do with it,
except create another SBS with it.

Hi:

No, you cannot use just the Windows Server portion, or any other portion
as part of another SBS domain. The usual use for decent ex SBS 2003 hardware
is to repurpose as a TS with Server 2003 or 2008.
